Sometimes in life we can get so caught up in the day to day craziness that we forget that a world exists beyond us, a world that is a far cry from the world we’ve experienced. When I heard about the opportunity to work the Rock In A Free World Concert at the Highline Ballroom through Elle Communications, I signed up immediately knowing it would be a fun experience. What I didn’t know was just how much I would learn about the business world, nonprofit events, and the amazing things that can happen when you unite people for a shared cause.
Rock In A Free World was an event created by the nonprofit organization Made In A Free World whose mission is to free the millions of people living in slavery today. By educating the consumer, disrupting illicit markets, and creating a network of aligned buyers and suppliers who have refused to use forced labor, Made In A Free World works to help businesses understand the risk of forced labor in their supply chains and gives them clear steps to support freedom for all. The Rock In A Free World Concert brought together performers such as Natasha Bedingfield, who performed a full set list, Questlove, Kimbra, and Estelle, in addition to celebrities such as Sophia Bush, Zabryna Guevara, and Lauren Paul, wife of Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul.
During the event, my job was to check in VIP clients as well as general admission attendees with publicists from Elle Communications, who were so incredibly helpful and passionate about the event. In addition to being a learning experience, the night was an incredible networking opportunity with attendees from print publications, television talk shows, and other non-profits. The gift of being able to work an event for a cause with this much importance was priceless! Between the people, the music, and the spirit behind the event, I realized I would like to work in a field that leaves me with that feeling that I’m doing something that makes a difference in the world. Thanks PRSSA for yet another amazing opportunity!
